The Atlanteans soon broke apart into two distinct groups, the Sons of Belial and the Sons of the Law of One. The Sons of Belial were those who became trapped in their own materialism and turned their creative powers into destructive forces, selfishly exploiting the earth and its life forms. The Sons of the Law of One recognized the dangers of materialism, and dangers of their own creativity, and tried to assist man in regaining spirituality and recognizing the creator. The dichotomy could also be seen as those who had purified themselves through spirituality and the recognition of a single creator, and those who had failed to shake off their animal influences. Their discovery of sexual lust brought them further from their spirit-form. Gradually, the Sons of Belial became literally materialistic, locked into their physical forms, and cut off from their original, spiritual nature.
